REAL OTS ANALYSIS
The trailer begins with a birds eye view, long shot, and the camera is zooming and twisting. the camera is looking towards a tape player and an old eerie voice is coming from it and says,"this is my home get out now." he then goes on to say that his name is Bill Wilkins and that he is 72 years of age. It is looking at it from a birds eye view because of the the confusion in the voice and also the vulnerability of who is actually talking, because after it informs the audience that it is coming from an 11 year old girl called Janet. It then turns to a high angle, extreme long shot and shows Ed and Lorraine Warren start to travel to England to try and help this girl and her family. They use the high angle because it informs the audience that where they are going is not safe and is very dangerous. In the trailer their is a clip showing Lorraine Warren talking to Janet in the garden, she asks,"Does the voice feel like its coming from inside you?" As she says this the camera is at a high angle and a close up shot is shown to Janet's face. This is done to show the audience the fear within her and also her vulnerability to Bill. it then shows a clip of Bill talking through the use of Janet and lights begin to flicker. They use a high angle and an extreme long shot to show that Bill is superior to the people in the room and to also show exactly how powerful he actually is as it shows all of the lights in the room flickering. There is another clip where one of the crosses in her room starts to move and turn upside down, it then turns to a high angle, mid shot and begins to zoom towards Janet's face to show how scared she is. The camera then pans to an over the shoulder shot on Janet looking at a dark shadow in the corner of the room from a low angle and Bill comes out to try and grab Janet, it then cuts to a mid shot, high angle looking at Janet scared on the ground screaming and the camera moving towards her, putting us in the view of Bill. The camera then shows an extreme close up on Janet's face from a high angle and shows her crying and screaming, this then makes the audience really sympathise for her.
The scene begins with an extreme close up on Annabelle's eye (the doll) and the camera begins to track out to show the rest of her face. whilst this is happening there is audio of a girl's voice talking about how the doll moves by itself. This is done to immediately show the creepiness of the doll. It then cuts to a clip of 3 people sitting on a sofa and reveals it is one of the girls that is talking about the doll. the camera is at a slight high angle and is at a mid shot, this is to show they are just ordinary people but are still at danger. The two girls start to talk about an entity who died in the house wanting the body of the doll and so they allowed it to. the camera then makes a cut to a high angle close up shot on one of the girls face as she says,"but then things got worse." This is done to show the audience that they are in actually great danger being near the doll. It then shows a flashback of the 2 girls walking into the apartment and finding the doll in a different place and one of the rooms being wrecked. it then cuts to a clip of one of the girls throwing annabelle into a bin, it shows this from a birds eye view and an extreme long shot. they have done this to show annabelle is being suppressed as she is being thrown in the bin but the woman is also in danger because annabelle is going to come back.
At the start of the 31 Trailer we can hear a dark and mysterious voice which tells us that he is the villain and that he is not trusted. When we see the villain narrating it is a Close Up Shot and a Medium Angle, which shows that we are looking at him as an audience, this impacts the audience because it makes them feel like that the man is talking to them, and that he has us locked up and have us staring at him and we have to listen to him. During the trailer we hear the man say “I’m here to end your misery life” this tells us that he is getting ready to murder someone in quite a brutal way, we still don’t know who he's talking to, all we can suggest by the word ‘Misery’ is that the victim hasn’t had a good life, may have done something bad. Later on the trailer we see an Over the shoulder shot, and a Medium Angle, of 5 people hanging, chained up, We can suggest that the over the shoulder shot means that someone has organized this to happen, we can suggest that this person has got them kidnapped by the fact that they are chained up. The medium shot shows us that there are 5 people chained up. At 1:20 in the video we see a Extreme Close Up shot, this suggests fear, because the extreme close up shows us that the women may be feeling frightened. The picture shows us a Close up shot of the man Smiling and looking at someone with blood around his mouth, this suggests that this guy could be a killer/serial killer. We can see that the man has gone with a sort of clown look to make himself seem more scary than he already is, this suggests that he wants to make people fear him more.
The opening scene starts with a high angle, crane shot that is showing the victim's bedroom. The camera then pans around the victim's bedroom to reveal all of his surroundings which are mostly toys, cupboards and other items that are standard to any child's bedroom. The camera then slowly moves off into the corridor to reach another room, the camera stays at a mid-level angle demonstrating to the audience that the mood in the house is still very calm and relaxed.
